Bailey Sarver – Pastoral Associate

Bailey – “Hi, I’m Bailey. I was raised on an acreage outside of Pella, Iowa and I am a graduate of Dordt College and Calvin Theological Seminary. The context in which I grew up and studied has been deeply formative; I have a deep desire to be connected with the land and those around me. While I was a student at Calvin Seminary I served as a Campus Ministries Intern at Calvin College where I developed a passion for serving college students through mentoring and facilitating discipleship and formation groups. Much of my recent academic focus has been on pastoral care and social justice. I am delighted to be joining the Campus Chapel community and look forward to serving with you soon!”

China Outreach Ministries
University of Michigan – Ann Arbor ~ Lynn & Mary Degener

The Degener’s are campus missionaries with China Outreach Ministries (友爱中华). Locally we go by “China Friends” to make our name more relatable. COM is a national mission organization with staff on 53 campuses in North America. They focus exclusively on China’s students, scholars and their family members in the U.S. and Canada. Lynn and Mary spend their time at the University of Michigan. At the U of M 38% of all International students are from China and Taiwan. The U of M has more graduate students from China than any other school in the U.S.

These facts raise the importance and the opportunities we have to share the Gospel and impact a nation for God. Lynn and Mary lead a team of volunteers that meets weekly with scholars and or spouses for English class in a large group setting and in homes for English conversation. They and their team also have several “in home and on-line” individual/group Bible studies each week and share with them the message of Christ. Lynn has completed the certification course to become a certified facilitator in the Prepare – Enrich program. This program is intended to build stronger marriages and can be used internationally. They also assist students with countless details related to living and going to school in a foreign country.

Resonate Global Mission (formerly Christian Reformed World Missions)
Irving, Texas ~ Joel & Jeannie Huyser

Joel serves Resonate Global Mission as global area director for Latin America and Asia. He also continues to lead the transformational network strategy of Resonate both internationally and in North America.

The Nehemiah Center which Joel helped found in Nicaragua is the first example of the transformational network strategy. The Nehemiah Center equips and motivates Christians from all walks of life to work together for the Christ-centered transformation of their communities and cities. Both pastoral and lay leaders are trained in a Kingdom worldview; churches, schools, and businesses are given tools to become more healthy and effective; and grassroots networks are formed uniting churches and leaders of different denominations for mutual learning and collaboration.

Since the leadership of the Nehemiah Center was turned over to local Nicaraguan Christians in 2008, Joel has been worked to nurture transformation networks in other parts of Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. These networks focus on the Christ-centered spiritual and social renewal of cities and nations.

Jeannie teaches English as a Second Language in Dallas where they now live and is involved in a counseling ministry with women. She travels with Joel as she is able. All of Joel and Jeannie’s children are now out of the home.

Resonate Global Mission (formerly Christian Reformed World Missions)
Costa Rica ~ Jim & Ruth Padilla-DeBorst

James and Ruth live in Casa Adobe, an intentional community working together to create a vision of God’s Kingdom here on earth, where friendships exist across distances, where justice becomes a visual practice, and where love is shared with friends and strangers alike.

Through local, regional, and global ministry, we seek to serve as catalysts for contextualized Kingdom worldview and transformational engagement:
-Locally, we are part of casa Adobe, an intentional Christian community seeking to live out the Good News in our neighborhood.
-Regionally, Jim co-leads the cohort of Missioners, through which young people from North and centralAmerica live, serve, and learn alongside one another.
-Continent-wide, we lead the Center for lnterdisciplinary Theological Studies, an educational program through which students explore together how their faith affects all aspectsof life.
-Globally, Ruth coordinates the lnternational Fellowship for Mission as Transformation, a community that nourishes mission through theological reflection.
